MacReset Discord Tool · macOS only

MacReset Discord Tool — reset broken Discord on Mac and force a clean sign-in.

MacReset Discord Tool is a free signed macOS .pkg that clears corrupted local Discord state — identity data, caches, tokens, and update files — so Discord can rebuild clean. Fixes login loops, broken voice and screen share, and update failures without touching the Discord app itself.

The Discord app itself remains installed. These tools only reset local identity, cache, and update data for the current Mac user.

What this reset targets

  • ~/Library/Application Support/discord
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.hnc.Discord.plist
  • Local Discord identity, cache, token and update state

Run → local Discord state wiped → reopen Discord → sign in again.

What this Discord reset suite actually does

The Discord Reset Suite contains multiple tools for different levels of Discord failure.

  • Clears Discord caches and logs to fix UI and performance issues
  • Resets Discord identity data to force a clean sign-in
  • Repairs Discord application permissions so it can update correctly
  • Performs a full local Discord reset while keeping the app installed

What it does not do

  • Does not uninstall Discord.app unless explicitly chosen
  • Does not modify macOS system files
  • Does not affect other user accounts on the Mac
  • Does not modify non-Discord Keychain items
Each tool performs a specific level of reset. Only the Full Reset option removes all local Discord identity and login tokens.

Discord problems this reset fixes

If any of these scenarios look familiar, this reset is designed for exactly your situation.

Discord stuck logging in

Discord never completes login or loops endlessly at startup.

  • After account changes
  • After MFA issues
  • After device reassignments

Voice or screen share is broken

Audio devices fail, screen share black screens, or voice disconnects.

  • After macOS upgrades
  • After audio driver changes
  • After permission corruption

Discord won't update

The Discord app cannot update itself due to broken ownership or permissions.

  • Manual installs
  • MDM deployments
  • Legacy permission issues

IT needs a predictable wipe

Used by IT teams and MSPs for clean Discord reconnections.

  • Staff onboarding/offboarding
  • Shared Macs
  • RMM workflows
IMPORTANT: During or after a Discord reset, macOS may prompt for access to Photos, Music, or Cloud Storage. These prompts are generated by the Discord Helper app, not this reset tool. They appear as Discord rebuilds its internal components. Access can be safely denied unless the user routinely uploads files directly from those locations.

How the Discord reset works

1

Quit Discord completely

Discord is closed and all helper processes are stopped.

2

Local Discord state is wiped

Identity, cache, and update data are removed for this user.

3

Reopen Discord and sign in

Discord launches like a fresh install and requires a clean sign-in.

The Full Reset option permanently deletes all local Discord authentication tokens on this Mac user profile.

Always confirm that important Discord data is stored in the cloud before running a Full Reset.

Manual method (if you prefer doing it yourself)

1. Quit Discord

From the menu bar, quit Discord fully.

2. Remove Discord application data

Delete data under ~/Library/Application Support.

3. Clear Discord caches

Remove caches and logs under ~/Library/Caches.

4. Reopen Discord

Launch Discord again and sign in from scratch.

Manual resets often leave behind tokens or updater corruption. The automated reset avoids these partial failures.
