Dropbox stuck syncing
Files never finish syncing or the menubar icon is stuck on “syncing” forever.
- Sync loop after macOS upgrade
- Sync stuck on a single file
- Only one Mac user account affected
MacReset Dropbox Tool · macOS only
MacReset Dropbox Tool is a free signed macOS .pkg that fixes Dropbox when it won't sync, won't quit, or refuses to uninstall cleanly. It clears identity data, caches, logs, helpers, and launch agents — or purges everything including local synced files if you need a scorched-earth removal.
macOS only · destructive by design · we do not back up Dropbox data

You choose: reset account, clear caches, nuke everything (including ~/Dropbox*) or fully uninstall the app.
We spell out the symptoms so people (and Google) can actually find it.
Files never finish syncing or the menubar icon is stuck on “syncing” forever.
Dropbox helper processes won’t die, or keep coming back after you think you’ve quit.
Laptop is signed in as an ex-staff member or the wrong Dropbox tenant.
~/.dropboxApp’s gone from /Applications but services, prompts and Finder hooks are still hanging around.
Same philosophy as Office Reset and Chrome Reset – delete the problem folders properly.
Quit Dropbox from the menubar and make sure there are no Dropbox processes running in Activity Monitor.
Depending on which option you choose, we clear identity data (~/.dropbox),
caches, logs, support folders and launch agents under ~/Library/.
The full reset & purge option also removes ~/Dropbox* folders.
That’s a scorched-earth button – only use it if everything is safely in the cloud or backed up.
Reinstall Dropbox (if you uninstalled it) and sign in again, or just reopen it and let it rebuild clean state.
This is essentially what our pkgs do under the hood. We just automate it and log everything.
Click the Dropbox icon in the menubar → profile menu → Quit Dropbox.
Delete or rename ~/.dropbox to clear local account bindings.
Delete:
~/Library/Caches/com.dropbox.Dropbox
~/Library/Logs/Dropbox
Delete any com.dropbox.* files from:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/
To fully purge local files, delete or archive any ~/Dropbox* folders.
Only do this if your files are already synced or backed up.
We do not back up Dropbox data first. That’s intentional – these tools are built for IT who know what they’re wiping.
Throw in $2–$10. Helps keep the tools free, signed, and up to date.
